After breakfast, I chatted with Nick Braebrook about Alaskan glaciers and the marvels of that state. Then off to post yesterday's blog entry, which was tricky as the signal kept disappearing. The arrival of two new satellites later this year, one over the Atlantic and one over the Pacific suggest a huge improvement in communications.
Stopped by Yo-yo's office to discuss future sailing plans, no decision made.
Chatted with Miranda and Gary. I can't believe the cruise is almost over and we've spent almost no time visiting. She assured me she'd had no problems this crossing, not even last night when the ship was rocking a bit more than usual.
I missed knitting because I went to see RADA's version of The Importance of Being Earnest. Excellent rendition. I enjoyed it a lot; Mark's rendition of Lady Bracknell was amazing.
Met Sheila at play, then we went to Kings Court for tea...curried shrimp. Yum! I resisted the lure of the chocolate fountain! Proud of myself and realistically aware that lobster is on tonight's dinner menu!!
I, also, missed the Passenger Talent show, which means I did not get to see the Guiness Book World Record Holding paper-cup-stacker! Who knew?!?! Turns out he's older than I thought; I'd expected a late teenager, not a mid-30's year old.
Marcus is a round-faced, balding waiter in Carinthia whose grin makes you think he's the Nicaraguan Brad Pitt!! And, he is very efficient!!
An astonishing event occurred this afternoon. Sheila and I were browsing the jewelry as I have inclinations toward a magnificent Swarski ring, but just can't justify the expense for the few times I would wear this dinner ring. Anyway, Sheila was admiring this make-up bag...think clear plastic with 2 zippers and a black bottom but was hesitant to spend the $152!!! (No lie) for it. She had just quipped that if she had enough drinks later on, she might just be back to get it. (I believe its being called "the Audrey Hepburn" had a lot to do with its allure for her.) She was just putting it on the shelf when Nick came up and chatted with her about it. He took it off the shelf, went over to the counter and bought it for her! I have never seen her speechless before - caught between her desire for the bag and her discomfort that this relative stranger (he's an occasional fellow cruiser) spent so much on her. She is so in control normally that this moment is priceless to me; she spent the rest of the evening with Nick (who showed up at the Senior Officers' Cocktail party for the first time ever! he'd even shaved!!) Donald and Stephen speculate a budding romance on his part; not me, my take is that she is attentive and interesting and he is lonely and thanking her the only way he knows how. Regardless, the experience was a memorable one.
Sheila and I dined alone again. Good thing my ego is hearty as the frequency with which people dine with us then leave could be shattering. I wish I could get Table 70 again as it's the perfect site for people watching as they come down the staircase to dinner. Especially awesome was tonight's Chefs' Parade!
Dinner was lobster and shrimp. How amazing!! I have learned to say thank you in two new languages from our waiters: Aleksander's Macedonian - fala and Vladimir's Serbian - Koala. Neither are correct but the phonetic equivalent.
Post dinner, Sheila and I retired to 8077 to visit without interruption, have a cup of tea and, incidentally, coordinate necklace with the amazing tropical top I'm wearing to dinner tomorrow. This coordination occurred after I mentioned I was undecided about what went with the bright, color-gaudy top. What a girlie-girl way to end a day!!
I was in bed just before midnight after a delightful day.
